Abstract:East-Asian banking, like the region's economic life, does not lack in Chinese talent. But up to now the sector has produced few international success stories. One reason of the failure may be the traditional family ties. It is clearly shown by the example of Oversea -Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC), whose success is due to a life-long full time professional banker. But the Chinese prefer businesses they can control through the family, despite the obvious bad effects.
