| Abstract: | Due to the previous uncertainties surrounding initial EMU memberships, all former studies on European money demand are based on country groupings that differ from actual membership. This study is among the first to include those countries which actually form EMU in 1999. Furthermore, most prior analyzes aggregate the national data and estimate money demand functions only for the European monetary aggregate. This paper contrasts estimates for national as well as for aggregate money demand functions in order to gain insights on asymmetries in money demand behavior across the EMU member countries. |
