Abstract:There is no product development plan that can guarantee success, but the best practices leading the new product to success can be identified by using a causal model of the relationships among the key variables leading to new product performance. Process skills, project management skills, alignment of skills with needs, team skills, and design sensitivity are the factors that lead to marketing and technical proficiency. The study participants manufacture, develop and market high-technology industrial and consumer products. The success or failure of the projects in this study are judged by using the following criteria: Return on investment, profit, market share, sales, opportunities for technical leadership, market dominance, and customer satisfaction.
