Abstract:How do experienced leaders reframe hardship into springboards to success? The findings from a series of comprehensive interviews with senior business and organizational leaders contend that leadership is often forged in the cauldron of adversity, and success is often shaped through the disappointments and setbacks of the adversity experience. This paper describes the links btw. success and adversity, exploring the fundamental process for successful leaders. Three stages of response or rebound emerged: disillusionment, reflection, and transformation. Each stage appeared to be an essential step in the overall process of constructive adjustment.
