Abstract:Before becoming a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was a promotion for life. Today it is more like having a seat on a roller coaster. This article suggests that aspiring CEOs need a new set of skills in order to maximize their tenure. It is clear that CEOs have no control over the vicissitudes of global markets and turnaround-plus CEOs maximize their influence over what matters to the organisation and over the aspects of its performance that they can influence. When they have done all they humanly can, they can hope good fortune shines on their efforts.
