Abstract: | Companies throughout the world are consolidating their many datacenters into single supercenters. This way they cut costs and also create new jobs and new respect for information services. Decision factors and parameters about consolidation of company information services are discussed. The advantages of supercenters include greater information control, higher skilled and better paid IS personnel, centralized and upgraded transaction handling, selecting more economic locations. In addition, highly skilled IS workers may be attracted to the technical and career challenges presented by an organization smart enough to consolidate. The economics of consolidation is discussed for companies like ATandT, US Steel, Fleet Norstar. |
