Abstract:The prize-winning paper explores the ethical questions concerning patent rights on AIDS drugs. Specifically, the main dilemma relates to the question of whether such patents should be internationally respected, or whether they should be ignored in order that low-cost generic drugs may be distributed to AIDS victims in developing countries. The article includes a letter to the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer.
