Abstract:Telecommuting's flexibility is its greatest strength. Uses can be shaped around specific problems like organization structure, office space, and flextime. Light is shed on telecommuting as a management tool and work style. By combining the productivity potential of personal computers with the communications potential of telephone lines, employees working at home and a growing number of companies are using telework to open up new opportunities in which work can be performed more efficiently, more profitably, and more enjoyably for the mutual benefit of the employee and the company. But telecommuting, if it is poorly conceived and implemented, it can have negative effects on the organization.
