Abstract: | Mechanics of Voluntary Export Restraints /VER/ are illustrated by three examples, pricing and distribution strategies are highlighted. VER's aims may be: managing surrender, keeping foreign suppliers marginal, and sharing domestic market with foreigners. Business involvement in VERs and industry-government co-operation is discussed. VERs move business antagonists closer to co-operative partnership; the way how this is accomplished is described. Strategies of challengers of an export market may follow a number of strategies designed to gain market share: head-on strategy, back door strategy, and the guppy strategy is described. VERs are concentrated in relatively few sectors. |
