Abstract:In the remaining years of the 1990s, China will continue to promote its industrial policy. This is because the nation's drastically changing industrial structure in the midst of a high-speed growth is beset with outstanding problems. Besides, with the economic system in transition and with an immature market, the industrial policy will- in comparison with those of advanced countries under the market economy-continue to assert a strong impact on the development of the Chinese economy. This article recounts the main points of "Outline of the State Industrial Policy in the 1990s" and compares the differences between this outline and the industrial policy in the previous decade and the actual role it will play. It also forecasts the modes in which the industrial policy asserts its impact, the key fields involved and the implementation of the policy.
