Abstract: | As Shanghai Economic and Technological Development Zone adhered to the general principle of utilizing foreign investment actively, rationally and effectively in 1997, the introduced foreign investment grew steadily. It was characterized by the following: development functions had their own distinguishing features. Transnational corporations had settled down one after another. Technological content was increased obviously. Economic returns developed in step with social benefits which became increasingly outstanding. The total number of the employed accounted for 39.6% of the total of the whole city, thus raising the social employment level. The greatly introduced foreign investment promoted the transformation and development of city infrastructure facilities and their functions. |
