Abstract:Nowadays the competition in the automotive industry is based on costs, speed, variants and quick orientation to the few growing market segments. The nature of the competition as well as the growth of the automotive industry indicates that it has reached its mature state. On the other hand technical development keeps on going and new software and electronic actors are now trying to enter this industry. The writers consider the possible future developments of the automotive industry, and the ways through which the car makers can differentiate themselves and search for new business opportunities. The writers conclude that all automotive manufacturers must acquire new information about both emerging technologies and customer needs just to stay in the core business.
