| Abstract: | Issue of direct equity links between East and West are discussed. Data are presented about CMEA equity participation and about the principal investors. The case of Poland is analyzed in detail.Legal framework and apparent motivations for foreign direct investments are outlined. Statistics are presented about the size, structure and features of investments. Main trends in equity cooperation ventures are summarized and illustrated. The control mechanism is analyzed, shares are compared. Motives and strategy of Western and socialist foreign investors are discussed. The need for more research on this field is stressed. |
