| Abstract: | Foreign investment patterns in the USA are discussed. Investment control is examined including international and national rules. USA antitrust laws applicable to inward investment are analysed. Data are presented of investments and acquisitions, enforcement trends are highlighted. Conglomerate, vertical and horizontal mergers are compared. Reasons for the significant tightening of standing requirements are discussed. Procedures of the committee on Foreign Investment in the United States are described. Conclusions are summarized, contradictions between the tight control of foreign investment and the principle of open investment are highlighted. |
