Abstract:A historical perspective of the Israeli economy and a description of the USA-Israeli trade is provided. The consequences of the boycott imposed by the Arab states is discussed. Reasons for a free trade agreement /USA policy for liberalizing trade, rewarding the peace treaty with Egypt, the market share lost to the EEC/ and how the USA-Israeli Free Trade Area Agreement /FTAA/ works, is discussed. FTAA is compared with the GATT. Dispute settlement and some other significant provisions are discussed, effects on trade between the signatories are evaluated, some trade issues /valuation of imported goods, compulsory levies, technical standards/ are analysed; an evaluation of the FTAA is provided.
