Abstract:Identity-based conflicts between groups seem to be emerging in the work organizations. Thus, managing intergroup conflicts is new challenge leaders face. This article begins with a literature review on intergroup conflict, workplace diversity and social identity theory. Four leadership strategies suitable for conflict management are examined: decategorization, recategorization, subcategorization, and crosscutting. Interview is used as primary source for assessing these strategies. Finally, the study shows that the effectiveness of each strategy depends on cultural context.
