Abstract:In Western cultures, there are high correlations found between commitment (henceforth as: commt.), turnover and performance. In this study, compared is the influence of commt. to the workgroup on relevant outcomes in different cultural contexts. Based on data collected from German and Chinese employees, it is indicated that workgroup commt. is more predictive in a collectivistic (here as: coll-tic.) than in an individualistic context. In addition, the relationships btw. components and foci of commt. are stronger in a coll-tic. context.
