Abstract: | This paper analyses the management of creativity in a digital networked economic and social environment paying particular attention to media and entertainment. The author aims to highlight the potential for a balance between control and freedom in the networked environment and to develop a clearer theoretical and empirical specification of internet gift economies (hereafter as IGE). The results underline the changing social and technological conditions of creativity and identify a set of possible routes towards more balanced peer-based models, in which the power of IGE and the current reproduction of industrialized creativity are brought together. |
