Abstract: | According to the "Hedonistic Paradox" homo economicus, or someone seeking happiness (henceforth as: hpn-ss.) for him-/herself, will not find it, but the person helping others will. This study investigates two questions in connection with hpn-ss. and generosity (here as: gen-ty.): 1. Do more generous people report on average greater hpn-ss., or subjective well-being (SWB), 2. In the case of an affirmative answer, what is the causal relationship btw. gen-ty. and hpn-ss.? There is found a favourable correlation btw. gen-ty. and hpn-ss. Various possible explanations, including that material well-being causes both hpn-ss. and gen-ty. are examined etc. |
