| Abstract: | This is the text of the 1st Morishima Lecture at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). It examines particularly two distinct priorities, both important for the discipline of economics: 1. priority of "separation" with a focus on segregating distinct questions sharply, and then analyzing them separately, and 2. that of "integration" looking particularly for interrelations btw. distinct issues. Some of the major battles within the methodology of economics are argued to have been connected with the conflicting priorities of the two. However, the discipline needs both of them. |
