Abstract:The photoprocessing industry reached a peak in 1989. Since then it has been all downhill. Reduced consumer spending on photoprocessing has highlighted overcapacity in the industry and generated price competition among suppliers. Price is not necessarily the main factor for consumers. Convenience and the time taken to process a film are often more important. There are still profit opportunities in photoprocessing but more and more they will be linked to ancillary sales, eg larger size prints, films, photo frames.
