Abstract:Overall, peasant households being engaged in other business in addition to farm work has low-level nature at the present stage. In terms of type level, peasant households engaged in business in one industry constitute the majority while a small proportion does so in two industries. In terms of industrial level, they are engaged in business mainly in the low-level industries like building, transportation and commerce. Viewed from economic development, the peasant households engaged in business in two industries are the hope of shifting China's agricultural development model. Only by developing greatly such peasant households can resources be made to transfer to large households going in for farming and agriculture be shifted from being labour intensive to being capital and technology-intensive. This is also an unavoidable stage in development.
