Abstract:This paper constructs a neo-classical growth model where intergenerational (hereafter as: int-gen.) altruism (here as: altr.) can be endogenously reinforced entailing costly sacrifices on the part of parents to acquire such trait. While the incentives to acquire altr. traits depend on the economic conditions, in turn altr. determines the level of int-gen. bequests and ultimately the pace of capital accumulation and economic growth. It is shown that int-gen. transfers are driven by a natural degree of altr. at earlier stages of economic growth.
