Abstract: | Current management culture - based on the intention to control others - is contrasted with a new management culture based on the intention to empower others. Coaching is presented as that conversation which creates the new management culture, not as a technique within the old culture. The managerial context for coaching identifies management as a people-based art that focuses on creating and maintaining a climate, environment which enables/empowers a group of people to generate desired result, achievements. Different meanings of coaching are defined. The coach's job is thoroughly examined. The characteristics of a great coach who has had more than 30 years of coaching professional football teams are described and analyzed. |
