| Abstract: | The acceleration of the European integration is itself enough to justify the attraction of the pressure groups for Brussels. Several thousands are already installed in the Belgian capital. The future development of this phenomenon depends in fact on the pressure groups themselves, on how they fit in the European institutional environment. It is doubtful whether they will be able to win confidence and respect from the Commission which plays the major role in the legislative process. The European public service is open and cooperative but to the extent that lobbyists play a useful role and comply with the rules of the game which have not been well defined so far. |
