Abstract:Top management support is identified as a key recurring factor critical to information systems effectiveness in large and small businesses. The role of top management support may not be as critical as external information systems expertise in the form of consultants and vendors, in small business information system implementation due to the characteristics of small businesses. An empirical study is described here of the relative importance of top management support and external information systems expertise on information systems effectiveness in small businesses. The results show that top management support is not as important as effective external information systems expertise in small business information systems implementation.
