Abstract: | In-depth interviews with 25 champions of change reveal that they have distinctive personality characteristics, leadership behaviour, and career experience that motivate them to seize and actively promote new ideas in organizations. Nevertheless, these champions operate in different ways, depending in part on the type of support for innovation available within the organization. Top-management support is especially important. The participative process of championship is formed among the employees before a formal approval is obtained. To encourage and support championship, champions must have considerable job autonomy including diverse career experiences. |
