Abstract: | The movement toward computer-integrated manufacturing /CIM/ which should be the IS manager's final goal has, for some, turned into a nightmare. IS can help to link design, manufacturing and marketing to generate the quick responsiveness needed to compete on a global level. But it is not sure whether it will, as it has been discussed. It turned out that IS and design personnel may not be working together, and the reason was given that IS was not considered to be part of the planning process when a CIM project started. Top management should realize that IS is often in the best position to link these independent activities into an integrated operation. |
