| Abstract: | Two sets of strategic issues are addressed; what are the best kinds of strategy in recession; what sort of top managers should carry them out. The experience of 103 manufacturing firms surveyed during the last business cycle suggests, that recession strategies that protect and even reinforce existing resources pay off well by the time of recovery, and the existing chief executives are generally the best managers to see their firms through the downturn. Discussed is that how far these findings are likely to hold true in the changed conditions of the early 1990s. |
