Abstract:The author explains why it is important to look at older people now, discusses what factors have to be borne in mind when this group are considered, examines a possible new market and considers why there are problems in doing research with and about this group. Older people in the 1990s are not only an emerging opportunity for research but they are a growing and substantial market for goods and services. But beware! The next generation of old people may well be more articulate, informed and demanding than previous generations.
