Abstract:This paper provides an analysis of the current state of corporate citizenship in the United States. The paper presents three frameworks for understanding the global context of US corporate citizenship and describes the primary trends and characteristics of each of these frameworks. Corporate citizenship is often uniquely tied to a country's identity and the US's characteristics serve to foster or challenge its evolution towards a more global corporate citizenship. The paper highlights the US's inno innovation and volunteerism as strong characteristics, yet acknowledges the country's emphasis on shareholder value and its cultural isolation as presenting major challenges to a fully integrated global citizenship strategy.
