Abstract:There is an increase in the number of people over 55 (older consumers) as the population is aging. Firms recognizing the importance of this consumer (here as: cons.) segment can use this demographic change to their advantage. However, as to preferences, motives, and spending patterns, the older cons. market is more heterogeneous than the younger cons. market. The same applies to travel and leisure (here as: t-and-l.) services. Herein, reported are the results of a large-scale study examining the responses to t-and-l. services and patronage motives of different age and lifestyle groups. There are suggested several most appropriate marketing startegies for reaching older consumers of t-and-l. services.
