Abstract:There are still gaps in the knowledge about networks and their relationship to small businesses, although the literature on small firm networks has been quite extensive. A qualitative study of six small service companies and their embedding in networks is presented in the article. The author concentrates especially on the contents that can be found to exist across the social networks of these companies. The article discusses the results of the study, drawing on the existing literature on small firm networks. The results reveal the complexity and informal nature of networking processes of small firms. Motivation factors for small firms to participate in networking activities are identified and directions for future research are proposed.
