Abstract:The authors concentrate on the digital divide among SMEs and analyze the possible factors affecting the broadband adoption among these firms. A two-step procedure is used in the investigation; relevant variables and interactions are explored with the help of a three-based technique and then their influence on broadband diffusion is tested through a binomial logistic regression. The results indicate that company’s relative size among SMEs is relevant and the geographical location can be a further obstacle for the smaller companies of the sample. Finally, the company’s ICT strategies – more precisely the outsourcing decisions of the company – seem to be an extenuating factor for the broadband disadvantages.
