Abstract: | Although recent agreements such as NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and the Uruguay round of GATT (General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs) have made international trade the subject of much public policy debate, little of the discussion has focused on the social units that will actually conduct the trade, namely, business organizations. However, the structure of business organizations may have as much effect on the success of trade agreements as does any particular policy feature of the trade agreements themselves. And trade agreements, in turn, will likely play a role in shaping the structure of business organizations. |
