Abstract:Based on data from 152 expatriates working for Taiwanese subsidiaries in China, this paper studies the ways in which work role characteristics, emotional intelligence, corporate entrepreneurship and locus of control impact expatriates' adjustment and commitment. Structural equation model is applied in the study, and the results of the analysis reveal that the adjustment and commitment of expatriates is best predicted by looking into work role characteristics. External locus of control was found to impact adjustment positively but commitment negatively, and emotional intelligence was found to have an impact on commitment only.
