| Abstract: | Fernando Pessoa published in 1930 a short article under the pseudonyme Alvaro de Campos in the catalogue of the I. Salon of the Independents held in Lissabon. This article defines painting as spiritual hierogliphics and thus lays the foundations of a semiotics of painting. |
