Abstract:The high performance workplace is a self-managed unit in which teams work without supervisors, design their own work methods, train people in a variety of skills, and share in financial results. It is overwhelmingly horizontal , versus hierarchical, in its orientation. Its focus is much more on customer and process than on boss and function. How can we do it? We need to develop leaders who have a conceptual understanding of the high performance workplace, the human instincts and empathy to help people through the required transitions. Who have the 'head , heart, and guts' to do what needs to be done.
