Abstract:In the paper, the performing arts (hereafter as: prf-arts.) value chain (as: PAVC) is introduced as a decision-making tool for prf-arts. organizations. Each activity can be analysed for its impact on overall viability, the sustained value contributed towards fulfilling its mission. Two categories of activity are presented: primary activities (e.g. personnel, programming, promotion etc.) and support activities (e.g. governance, fundraising etc.) All activities form an interdependent chain ultimately impacting on artistic merit etc. Case examples are presented to illustrate the use of the PAVC as a management decision tool.
