Abstract:This study uses nonparametric techniques to test for a trend in the proportion of new Broadway shows accounted for by revivals. It is suggested that the proportion of revivals really is increasing over time. According to the test for stochastic dominance, Broadway does not produce too many revivals. However, it is found that revivals are much less likely to close after only a small number of performances, whereas original productions run for longer on average.
