| Abstract: | This study presents cases in which dual leadership, a formal arrangement in which two people have equal rank at the top of the organisational hierarchy, is implemented in an organisation with the object of resolving a management crisis. While dual leadership is described in the management, it is commonly suggested that one person dominates and that the formal structure does not allow for two leaders equal rank. The author shows that arts organisations frequently feature dual leadership - artistic director and business director - with or without equal rank. However, it appears that temporary equal rank can be useful in crisis situations. |
