Abstract:The gap in income between the richest and the poorest countries has increased since the Second World War. In this paper the author shows how difficult it is to look deeper in the economic convergence because substantial progress in most welfare indicators hides the growing gap. In the post-war period the economic convergence has not been universal. The problem areas, where the growth experience is nearly stagnated, are mostly located in Sub-Saharan Africa.
