Abstract:This paper deals with whether there is a relationship btw. a young science-based firm's patterns of connections (here as: conns.)and the associated resource flows, and its performance (here as: perf). Hypotheses are tested as to 3 perf. indicators: inventiveness, innovativeness and employment. Analyzing a set of firms in Sweden and the United States (Ohio and Mass., U.S.), working with bio-compatible materials and related products, it is indicated that firm perf. is significantly influenced by the firms' pattern of connectivity. Especially, technology-related conns. proved important, where a high diversity in types of sources for technological (as: tech.) input, a large number of tech. relations and a high amount of technology transfer from the parent organization were related to better performance.
