Abstract:January 25, 1912. Frederick W. Taylor is defending his management system before the Special Committee of the United States House of Representatives to Investigate the Taylor and Other Systems of Shop Management. By identifying scientific management's birthplace as his paper "A Piece-Rate System, Being a Step Toward Partial Solution of the Labour Problem, Taylor fixed its age as 17 years in 1912 (Taylor, 1895). Most of the ideas in the scientific management were already known before Taylor's time.
