| Abstract: | Sales of washing machines fell under 1.5 mn units, valued at nearly £570 mn in 1991/92, but have since increased to just over 2 mn units in 1997/98, valued over £720 mn. UK production accounts for 40-50% of all automatic washing machine sales and 45-50% of washer-dryers. Most exports, which for tumble dryers are substantial and account some 40% of UK production, are to EU countries. Most imports are from Italy and Germany. |
