Abstract:This paper uses Taiwan's stock market as an experimental case to investigate relationships between stock returns and fundamental variables, such as earnings, dividends and cash flows. The results show that the usefulness of accounting information is sensitive to Taiwan's market characteristics. The paper concludes that the relationships between stock returns and fundamental variables are subject to the market's characteristics. The case of the Taiwan stock market illustrates that the usefulness of accounting information depends on the role of the information in the market. The results suggest that directly applying the U.S experiences without any adjustment may cause incorrect conclusions for empirical studies.
