| Abstract: | Though system conversion takes place at the tail end of the systems development life cycle, its effective management is extremely important for the long-term survival and success of a system. Three case studies are reported in order to show that the choice of a conversion strategy from the current information technology environment to a new environment is not easy. Eight conversion strategies are reviewed. In addition, three underlying dimensions that are relevant to conversion are highlighted: system size, timing and target organization size. Using these dimensions a framework for conversions is developed and a model for the selection of the appropriate conversion strategy is proposed. |
