Abstract:A continuing challenge in managing ISA strategies is gaining a clearer understanding of partner selection decision-making. The present results afford important insights for management practitioners interested in addressing this issue. Most importantly, they demonstrate that cooperative outcomes stemming from sufficient use of partner-related selection criteria may be particularly important in achieving and maintaining high levels of alliance performance. This study has taken an important first step toward providing clues as to how the partner selection decision can result in one alliance being more effective than another. In particular, presented findings elevate cooperation and the top management alignment selection factor as providing the basis of an important management agenda for those working in the field.
