| Abstract: | Artificial intelligence research has invented word processing, time sharing, more user-friendly processors and knowledge-based, or expert systems. Yet none of these things demonstrate true artificial intelligence. For the computer industry, artificial intelligence research is likely to influence its future products, while knowledge-based systems have already benefited users in both the private and public sector. Many of the largest UK companies have quietly invested in research. A growing area of knowledge-based systems is in medical applications. |
