Abstract:When project networks are to be modelled under uncertainty, there area variety of probability distributions from which to choose for activity-durations. From experience of risk analysis in practice, the paper offers some conclusion on how many and which parameters should be estimated, and which distributions should be used. The main conclusions are that (1) the parameters and distributions used must be meaningful to the project planner; (2) thus the problem of selecting a distribution and estimating its parameters psychological and practical rather than mathematical.
